American Aquarium Drop Details on their new album, ‘Chicamacomico

Just months after the surprise release of an album of classic country covers, band American Aquarium, led by BJ Barham, revealed they had new music in the works. Called Chicamacomico, the album’s tongue twister track comes from Hatteras Island, off the coast of North Carolina, and the Chicamacomico Lifeboat Station – an active U.S. Coast Guard facility during the first half of the 20th century, and now a museum – – located there.

The group shared the exciting news on social media, adding that fans could expect the full project to arrive in the summer of 2022. It will be recorded in November at the famed Sonic Ranch in Texas, which is the largest residential studio complex in the world. In the post, they shared what appeared to be the cover art for the new album: a painting of waves crashing onto the shore of a beach and a lonely figure standing with its feet in the waves.

As they did with their six previous studio albums, American Aquarium is seeking funding for Chicamacomico thanks to the pre-orders of the album.

“All (and I mean 100%) of your pre-order money will go to recording, mixing, mastering, producing and promoting the record,” Barham wrote in the caption of the post. “Special incentives include a signed limited edition, alternate cover, colorful vinyls… signed CDs, pre-order-only t-shirts, handwritten lyrics, your name in the sleeve notes, executive producer credits and even a few. acoustic / full shows. “

The band included another exciting reason for fans to contribute: Anyone who pre-orders the album will receive updates on their progress, including the chance to hear demo versions of the new music. “We have the best fans around the world and we want you to be as much of the process as possible. Your pre-order allows us to make the record we want to make, on our own terms, and for that we are eternally grateful,” continued Barham.

Within hours of the announcement of American Aquarium’s new album, fans responded to the group’s call for support. Just under 46 hours later, the record was fully funded and Barham released an update to thank fans for their quick and enthusiastic response.

“‘That You’ doesn’t even begin to cover it. We know how much confidence it takes to buy a record you’ve never heard, nine months in advance, and we don’t mean to disappoint, ”he said. “I’m more than proud of this new batch of tracks and can’t wait for you to hear what we’re up to next month …”

As a further way to show how much fan support meant to him, Barham shared a video of him playing the title track from Chicamacomico on acoustic guitar, describing the track as “a heavy song”.

“I’ll have a much longer personal story on this song at a later date, but for now, here is ‘Chicamacomico’,” he added. “Thanks for listening.”
