Original Lease Cast member Anthony Rapp returns to the New York scene. He will do the first Without youa one-man musical adapted from his memoir, at the New World Stages from January 14, 2023. The opening night will take place from January 25 to the 27th day to the day that Lease had its first public performance at the New York Theater Workshop. The show, directed by Steven Maler, is set to run through April 30.
In 1994, Anthony Rapp was 22, broke and working at a Starbucks, about to audition for a new musical by a young writer named Johnathan Larson. This musical has become the worldwide phenomenon Lease. This is where the story of Without you begin. Backed by a five-piece rock band, Rapp shares his story of the early years of Lease in this intimate evening of unparalleled joy and unspeakable loss.
In addition to LeaseRapp’s Broadway credits include The Little Prince and the Airman, Precious Son, Six Degrees of Separation, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and If so. His screen credits include the Chris Columbus film version of Lease as good as Star Trek: Discovery, Adventures in Childcare, School Bonds, Dizzy and Confused, Six Degrees of Separation, Man of the Century, Road Trip, A Beautiful Mind and more. In 2000, he released his first album Look around you.
The production will feature music by Jonathan Larson Lease plus original songs and compositions by Rapp, David Matos and Joe Pisapia. Orchestrations, original compositions and musical direction are by Daniel A. Weiss with additional arrangements by Tom Kitt.
