Joni Mitchell will release her comeback performance at the Newport Folk Festival as a live album.
The singer-songwriter returned to the stage for a surprise set at the New York rally, teaming up with friend Brandi Carlile on a 13-song “Joni Jam.”

Speaking in an interview with Elton John on his Rocket Hour radio show for Apple Music, Joni opened up about plans to release audio from the concert.
“I’ve seen you through the music, and of course your amazing rehabilitation, but the music has helped you so much and it’s beautiful to see you grow,” Elton said. “And folks out there, you haven’t heard of the Newport Folk Festival yet, but I think there’s going to be an album coming out of that?”
The Carey The singer replied, “Yeah, we’re trying to put that on,” revealing “didn’t have” rehearsals before the performance.
Talking about getting up to play guitar during the performance, she added, “Yeah, I had to figure out what I did. And I couldn’t sing the key, I became an alto, I’m not a soprano anymore, so I couldn’t sing the song.
“I thought people might feel enlightened if I just played the guitar part, but I love the guitar part of this song. In short, it was very well received, to my greatest pleasure.
