Longtime resident company, Musical Theater Guild, will be leaving the Alex Theater

After 20 years and staging more than 75 Broadway musicals, Musical Theater Guild will leave the city of Glendale and its longtime home, the Alex Theater, at the end of its 2022-2023 season.

SAS Entertainment Partners, the new management company overseeing the Alex Theatre, has plans for the venue that don’t include the Musical Theater Guild and its mission to present rarely performed works in a semi-stage, script-in-hand format. , using professional union actors and a live orchestra.

“We are very grateful to have had a 20-year residency at the Alex Theatre,” said Les Traub, Chairman of the Board of the Musical Theater Guild. “Our tenure there gave us a solid foundation where our business could grow artistically.” A loyal following and a host of awards, including the prestigious Margaret Hartford Award for Sustained Excellence from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, both attest to MTG’s stature in the Southern California theater scene.

The seating capacity of the Alex Theater has also allowed the company to expand its youth outreach program, bringing thousands of local high school students to live theater performances and providing mentorships to theater students who follow our professionals behind the scenes of MTG productions.

For its next season, MTG will present an abbreviated season of two productions instead of the usual four or five. This will give the company time to rise to the challenge of finding a new home where MTG can continue its work with new generations of theater professionals.

An announcement of the final season of MTG at the Alex will be made soon.
