Thrice announces new Horizons / East album for September 2021 release and shares new song

California rock band Thrice have shared the name and release date of their eleventh studio album. Horizon / East will be released on September 17th via Epitaph records. The announcement of the album is accompanied by the release of the first track from the album “Scavengers”. The band released their previous album Palm trees in 2018.

In June, the group shared their upcoming tour dates with their fans. The group will be supported by hardcore group Touché Amoré, Jim Ward (on certain dates) and Self Defense Family. Touché Amoré releases his album Lament last year and is on the list of the 50 best albums of 2020.

In the official press release, the group describes Horizon / East: “The album illustrates art as a work of recognition – the human task of perceiving oneself in the midst of details, catastrophes and blessings as one relentless relational phenomenon among others.”
Vocalist Dustin Kensure also talks a bit more about their new song. He says the song is about the past, the “toxic worldviews I once lived in” and the fact that “a lot of the people I love are still in this place”.

The song has a certain blackness that is nothing new to Thrice, the ubiquitous guitars and drums contribute to the edge of the track. The theme of being out of a dark place and others still being there is noticeable. The chorus of the song “I will find you in the black light / Of that cold, dry land / Nevermind who hold you last night / Come and take my, come and take my hand”, is what mainly reflects these intentions of Kensure . While the song certainly brings new elements to the table, it still sounds like Thrice.
