Attention theatre-goers! There is a live production of Mary Poppins come to Sydney and, if you play your cards right, you could land cheap tickets.
Cameron Mackintosh, Disney Theatrical Productions and Michael Cassel announced that there will be a digital lottery for Mary Poppins tickets, which will open at the Sydney Lyric Theater on May 15.
The lottery will take place on the TodayTix app, and if you’re the lucky winner, you can get great seats for just $45 per person.
The lottery opened on Friday, May 6 and will end at 1:00 p.m. AEST on Thursday, May 12 for performances between May 15 and May 22. From there, there will be a new digital lottery every week for the following week’s performances, which will open every Friday.
“I often hear stories of people who have fallen in love with theater watching the original Australian production of Mary Poppins over a decade ago, so it’s fantastic that we can introduce a whole new generation to the magic of Mary,” said Mary Poppins producer Michel Cassel. “The lottery is one of the many initiatives we have to allow as many people as possible to experience this incredible spectacle for themselves.”
New South Wales Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres said it was “fantastic to see so much excitement for what promises to be a spectacular production”, and said the digital ticket lottery “would mean that even more people would have the opportunity to experience this timeless classic”.
“The NSW Government is proud to support world-class productions like Mary Poppins, which positions Sydney as a global arts and cultural destination,” Ayres added.
To participate, you will need to download the TodayTix app, which is available in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Lotteries for each week’s broadcasts will open at 12:01 a.m. each Friday and end the following Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Once the lottery is open, you select the show you want to attend. If you share the show on your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, you will get one additional entry per platform. If you win, you will have the chance to buy up to two tickets for the show.
Winners (and non-winners) will be notified between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. each Thursday. If you win, you only have one hour to claim and pay for your tickets, so it’s best to keep those push notifications turned on.
